Local Parks |
The parks in our area prove to be some of
the most favored places to train by local runners. |
Brighton
State Recreation Area
This park of 4900+ acres is a great place to run whether it’s
on the trails or roads. BSRA has a
2-mile and 5-mile foot trail in addition to bike and equestrian trails that are
also suitable for running. The
trails and roads here feature some nice hills and a remote feel.
Pinckney
State Recreation Area
Home of the 'Pot', where the Michigan Trail Marathon is held
every year. Great place to train - but watch out for the "shortcut"
11,000+ acres. If you like the
feeling of being “out there”, this is the place for you.
Hudson Mills
Metropark
Located very close to the Pinckney State Recreation Area off of
North Territorial Road. This 1500+
acre park has a 3.5-mile paved trail loop in addition to a new 3 mile section
of trail opened in 2009. It’s
flat, so that makes it a good choice for easy runs or speedwork. Aside from the trail here, this park
offers many other options for outdoor activities year ‘round.
Island
Lake State Recreation Area
4,000 acres with a 6-mile and 9-mile trail. These trails offer quite a variety of
scenery and meander through various natural features. There’s also a 4-mile paved trail
that connects with the trail at Kensington Metropark and also the Huron Valley
Bike Path.
Kensington Metropark
Check out Kensington's infamous 8+ mile paved trail that loops
around Kent Lake. It’s marked
every ¼-mile with several bathroom facilities along the way. A paved path connects Kensington to
Island Lake State Rec Area for additional training miles!
Huron Meadows
Metropark
Huron Meadows has some great cross-country ski trails that are
suitable for running. They have
added several new sections of trail since 2006 with the latest additions
completed late in 2008. Aside from
the golf course, this is a low-traffic park where you will find that
countryside feeling.
